Formed in 2003, the Wounded Warrior Project supports the families of those wounded or killed in the course of duty in the United States Armed Forces. A nonprofit, the Wounded Warrior Project relies on donations and funds from various events such as the Wounded Warriors Golf Tournament.

The golf tournament, held at a different location most years, occurs in either June or July. It features different prizes, with custom offerings such as the longest drive and closest to the pin on designated holes, and also separate contests for the wounded warrior participants. The warriors' participants enter the tournament free of charge, while others pay an entry fee. There are also rated packages for the sponsors, who are classified into platinum, gold, silver, bronze, and hole sponsor, each with its own rate.
